"Bound" / «Переплетені» Nominated at Portland Festival of Cinema, Animation & Technology

Honoring Ukrainian folklore through animation…

We’re thrilled to announce that "Bound" / «Переплетені» has been officially selected and nominated at the Portland Festival of Cinema, Animation & Technology (PFCAT)—a prestigious event celebrating bold storytelling, boundary-pushing animation, and technological innovation in film.

Held at the renowned Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI)—home to one of the top IMAX theaters in the Pacific Northwest—PFCAT is where filmmakers, artists, and audiences gather to celebrate cinema in all its forms. The festival has welcomed industry professionals from Disney, LAIKA, Pixar, and beyond, and has been featured in MovieMaker Magazine as one of the most innovative festivals in the U.S.

"Bound" / «Переплетені» – The Missing Verse of Ukraine’s Favorite Love Song
What if the most beloved Ukrainian love song was missing its final verse? "Bound" unravels the mystery behind Ivanko and Galya—the star-crossed lovers at the heart of Ukraine’s most iconic folk ballad. Passed down through generations, their story hints at forbidden passion and heartbreak but leaves one question unanswered: what tore them apart?

With evocative visuals inspired by Ukrainian cross-stitch embroidery and a soul-stirring soundtrack built on traditional folk instrumentation, "Bound" imagines the unwritten final chapter of Ivanko and Galya’s story. Can love alone repair what was broken, or are some hearts destined to remain forever apart?

We’re honored that "Bound" is being recognized in Portland—a city often called the “second Hollywood of animation”—and proud to share a piece of Ukrainian cultural heritage with audiences from around the world.

Stay tuned for updates about screenings, Q&A sessions, and award results. If you’re in Portland, come experience the magic of "Bound" on the big screen at OMSI.
